Don't buy, refills nigh on impossible to get January 8, 2009 S. Paul I bought this item and although I've been moderately pleased with the results with moisturizer, less so without it. However it has proved to be nearly impossible to get refills, except online where you pay through the nose, especially when viewing postage. I have requested from Philips a list of locations where I can buy the refills - no response until now even though they promise on their website a response within 3 days. As the item is relatively actual, you should expect to be able to buy refills easily but this is not the case. Consider then what happens when this model is discontinued - you will not be able to buy the refills except by paying ridiculous amounts for P&P. For this reason alone: DON'T BUY!!!!!!
A Superb Shave January 7, 2009 Vanian (Scotland) I have been using the HS8060 now since xmas day and have only had to re-fill the razor once in two weeks with nivea gel, so it does last a while. I find the shave that you get is superb and compares well with my old Gillette Sensor wet shave which has stood the test of time against all the new fangled mach 3 ten blade nonsense. I would recommend any one to have ago at this model but do not pay full price. Downside is the price of spares you are meant to change the heads every year, 30 and the bottle store within the shaver every 6 months, i have yet to get a price for this.Overall iam delighted with the product and it feels great in the hand each shave takes approx 5 minutes which is fine by me.
Terrible, terrible service from Amazon. AVOID!!!!! January 6, 2009 P. Kelly Lost my order, refused to send me a replacement and I still haven't received a refund for the product that was taken from my account 10 days ago!! Legal action is swiftly approaching. Avoid Amazon like the plague. They have lost all control of their shipping and customer services!!
Finally a solution to wet shaving! January 6, 2009 Phil (Alton, Hants) I bought a Philips electric razor about 4 years ago and returned it after a fortnight as it gave me bad burns. The thing that attracted me to this was the moisturising function and that i could use it in a hot shower. My concerns in reading other reviews were the effectiveness if the balm, and its cost, as well as the fact it could well get washed away under a shower! I know others have published ways of refilling the balm but I have another alternative. I have been squeezing a handul of Cussons Imperial Leather Foamburst onto one hand and dipping the razor into that - it is soapy smooth and cheap! When I get out of the shower I give my face a once over in the mirror and use the balm with the razor for any missed bits. I would highly recommend the razor - give yourself time to get used to it, but it is a huge improvement on past Philips efforts.
Best electric razor I've had January 6, 2009 Mr. S. Lawson (Bucks, UK) This is, by far and away, the best electric razor I have ever owned. I have gone through a number of them - older Philishaves and Remingtons especially - and this one gives the closest, most comfortable shave. The Coolskin feature definitely makes a difference to how my skin feels afterwards although I find actual shaving performance is impaired when I use the cream as I have to press harder to get the shaving head through the cream. The unit is small and light and might feel a bit inconsequential if you have big hands. The trimming attachment is a bit of a fudge and I would recommend having something else to perform that function. One gripe - which is obvious in hindsight but not when I bought it - is that it is really designed to be used in the shower. The upshot being that there is no enclosure to catch the hair once it passes through the rotary heads. If like me you don't shave in the shower you will find you will be brushing yourself down after each shave. The main charging station is bulky (and noisy when the Nivea product is being refilled) but the handy travel charging lead gets round this. The neat little travel pouch is a nice addition. All in all, a great razor and you should grab it while it's discounted. Minor gripes around the lack of clippings enclosure, slightly rubbish trimming attachment and noisy refilling of the Nivea product are hugely outweighed by the sheer quality of the shave.
